Crowd to Protest for Immigration Reform in Morristown

Demonstration planned outside Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen's office.

On Wednesday, immigrants and supporters will protest outside Congressman
Rodney Frelinghuysen’s office in Morristown to demand a vote on immigration reform.

Protesters are looking to remind Frelinghuysen “that a majority of Americans support common sense reform with a path to citizenship and expect Congress to find a solution,” according to the press release.

Patch contacted Frelinghuysen’s office for a comment and is waiting to hear back. Immigrants contribute a good chuck to New Jersey’s economy because the State’s labor force is 27.5 percent foreign-born, according to the press release.

“New Jersey Republicans should join the majority of Americans who want to see a path to citizenship for the undocumented immigrants who are part of our communities, “said Kevin Brown, Vice President and New Jersey Director for 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union, which represents thousands of immigrant workers in the Garden State.

“There’s no honor in being on the wrong side of history as the last stronghold in a fight against civil rights.”

Nearly 10,000 members of 32BJ work and reside in New Jersey. The union represents office cleaners who maintain commercial buildings throughout the Garden State. 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country
