Denville Relaxes Brush Guidelines

Residents urged to cut limbs down to 6 feet

Denville Township is relaxing guidelines for brush removal in the wake of the early winter storm.

Because the leaves were still on the trees when the snow hit, hundreds of trees were damaged or destroyed and power was lost by more than 70 percent of the township.

Despite the best efforts of the township Department of Public Works, it is anticipated the wide-spread damage will require 3 to 4 weeks to clean-up. Besides respectfully requesting the patience of the residents, the DPW is relaxing the guidelines for tree/brush/limb removal from private property. If the trees/limbs/branches are less than 6- feet in length, residents can drag the trees/limbs/branches to the curb and the DPW will collect them. Anything larger than 6-feet in length, residents are requested to cut them down to 6-foot lengths or smaller for collection. Also, if residents are able to bundle and tie the smaller limbs/branches, this will enhance the clean-up process.

The priority of the DPW is to remove the trees/limbs/branches that are obstructing traffic or a hazard to fall into the roadway. Once all of the roadways are passable and the hazards eliminated, the limbs/branches/trees on the side of the road will be collected.

As an alternative, residents may also drop off their trees/branches/limbs at the DPW Yard, 140 Morris Ave. The hours of operation of the DPW Yard are:

Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
