Family Bike Rides, Watercolor Classes, Tennis Lessons, Other Rec Programs

Morris Township recreation brochure now online.

William D. Foelsch, Morris Township's Director of Parks and Recreation, alerted Patch that the new recreation schedule is now available online. It covers more than 60 programs for spring and summer, 2011, with activities for children, teens, adults and seniors. Here are five things you'll want to check out:

1. Adult Water Color: Local artist Elaine Brennick will teach a beginning watercolor class on Fridays from 10–11:30 a.m. starting on April 15 and running through May 20. Classes will meet at the Parks and Recreation Annex at 35 Woodland Ave. The fee is $45.00 per person.      

2. Adult Spring Tennis Instruction: Lessons for adult players, beginner through advanced, will be held at the Streeter Recreation Area this spring. Lessons last 6 weeks and the fee is $35.00 per person.    
Beginners: Mondays starting April 18, 7–8:00 p.m.
Intermediates: Wednesdays starting April 20, 7–8:00 p.m.
Advanced: Wednesdays starting April 20, 8–9:00 p.m.

3. Youth Spring Tennis Lessons: The U.S. Sports Institute will work with the Morris Township Parks & Recreation Department to offer a variety of youth tennis lessons. Classes meet for six lessons and cost $84 for ages 4-6, and $118 for ages 7-13. 
Ages 4 to 6:  Saturdays, starting April 30, 10:30–11:30 a.m.
Ages 4 to 6:  Mondays, starting May 2, 10:30–11:30 a.m. 
Ages 7 to 9:  Saturdays, starting April 30, 9–10:30 a.m.
Ages 7 to 9:  Tuesdays, starting May 3, 4–5:30 p.m. 
Ages 10 to 13: Mondays, starting May 2, 5–6:30 p.m.
Ages 10 to 13: Tuesdays, starting May 3, 5:30–7 p.m.  
Saturday classes are at the Streeter Tennis Courts; Monday and Tuesday classes are at the Ginty Tennis Courts.

4. Spring Family Bicycle Rides: Two family bicycle rides are planned, one on Patriot's Path on April 20, the other on the Traction Line and Loantaka Brook Reservation's trails on May 14. Get more information here.

5.  Other Programs: Many other programs are offered, including:

  • Sports Squirts for ages 3 to 5
  • Pottery for children
  • Children’s tennis instruction for boys and girls
  • T-Ball for boys and girls
  • Golf instruction for adults
  • Adult water color
  • Adult yoga
  • Men’s volleyball
  • Women’s softball
  • Family bicycle rides
  • Senior bus trips
  • Exercise classes for seniors
  • Bocce for seniors
  • Bingo for seniors
  • Card parties for seniors

There's also a very active summer schedule, including:

  • Activities at eight supervised playgrounds
  • Swim lessons and swim team at Ginty and Streeter Pools
  • Teen and youth trips
  • Summer basketball for girls and boys
  • Tennis lesson for children and adult
  • Sports camps and clinics
  • Pony grooming
  • A youth triathlon
  • Weekly hikes.

Community concerts at the Ginty Field Gazebo will be back, along with four Big Screen Family Movie Nights at Ginty Field and Cornine Field.
