Five Things About Morris Plains

Borough Council takes action at meeting

The Morris Plains Borough Council met on Thursday, March 15.  Some highlights:

1) Budget: The final council budget meeting will be held Friday, March 23 at 6 p.m..

2) Grants sought: Township Engineer Leon Hall reported he submitted grant applications for work on the three DPW buildings and the Community Center.

3) Patio: Council Public Works Committee Chair George Coogan reported the patio behind the teen ceneter is nearly done with only the corner pieces to be laid.

4) Community garden: Coogan reported the expansion of the community garden is going well. The road department took out some trees and the fence will be pushed back to accommodate 18 more spaces. New spigots were also installed. The land needs to be scraped, but Coogan said it will not be difficult because the land was a farm field. The land on which the current garden is land that once held a house, so there was debris. There are 13 people on the waiting list.

5) Bank: The Chase Bank is under construction and may be occupied as early as Labor Day.
