JCP&L to Present Communication Initiatives

Utility company will follow-up on improvements, including a new website for power outages.

The next meeting on Wednesday night will feature a presentation from JCP&L and also present awards to four police officers.

Stan Prater from JCP&L will give a presentation about the new communication initiatives the company have taken since the two storms in August in October that left thousands without power. This presentation is a follow-up to the on March 21.

At the committee meeting in March, JCP&L officials spoke about initiatives they are working on and listened to residents express their concerns about losing power during the storms.

JCP&L Spokesman Ron Morano said Prater will speak about some of the enhancements the company has done over the past six months, mainly about the that were completed in April.

"He's going to point out all of the abilities that the website has that the previous outage reporting maps did not for customers," Morano said.

Morano said some of the new abilities are for customers to report a power outage on the site, and also report any street lights that are out. He said the company's new 24/7 power center is available for customers to check on the Web and on their Smartphones.

The website is JCP&L's biggest communication enhancement, but Morano said Prater will also outline several other improvements that have been done and he will preview some future enhancements.

Also at the meeting, four officers will receive awards. Each year the department presents awards to officers at the June township committee meeting.

The 2011 Officer of the Year award recipient is Ptl. Steven Summerer, who is being commended for his involvement in school programs, such as D.A.R.E, and for his general involvement with law enforcement in the schools.

One of the two Honorable Service Awards will go to Ptl. Stan Witczak, who is being commended for his diligence to duty. In January, he identified a wanted vehicle that resulted in a suspect charged with a serious criminal offense.

Ptl. Steve Crump will also receive the Honorable Service Award for leading the agency in DWI arrests after making 23 arrests of 2011. He has won the MADD award for the second year in a row.

Ptl. Clay Boeninghaus will receive the Letter of Recognition for an incident in January when he stopped a car for an equipment violation and found 3.5 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle. His arrest stopped the suspects from making a drug deal that would have netted $28,000.
