Leaves Still Line Some Township Streets
Leaf pick-up will be over soon, Mayor promises
Leaf removal in Morris Township continues as winter approaches.
Resident Larry Schillings of Springhill Lane attended the township committee meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 15, to tell the governing body it’s not moving fast enough for him. Schillings said the piles of leaves that still line many township streets pose a danger.
Mayor H. Scott Rosenbush said the target date for leaf removal was originally Dec. 17, but obviously that wouldn’t be met. Collection continues by the township Department of Public Works along with some of the contractors the township hired to clean up debris after the October snow storm.

They can’t use any more outside contractors, Rosenbush said, because every town is in the same position and there are only so many people with the kind of trucks they need. He said he hopes the job is done by the holidays.
The crews are working one sector at a time, he said.

Leaf collection was held up because the debris was collected first and taken to the county facility at Greystone for processing into mulch. Material from Morris Township, Morris Plains and Parsippany filled the facility to capacity. Mulch will be available in the spring, Township Administrator Timothy Quinn said.
