Memorial Day Parade is May 26

Will include flyovers, visits from animals

On Saturday, May 26 at 9 a.m., Morris Plains will hold its annual Memorial Day service at , at the corner of Glenbrook Road and Mountain Way.

The traditional memorial service, conducted by members of the and Denville American Legion Post 390 will be followed by comments from Past VFW Post Commander Art Grant of Watnong Post 3401.

Then at 9:30 a.m., the 26th Annual Memorial Day Parade will start near the intersection of Glenbrook Road and Mountain Way. The parade route travels south on Mountain Way, east on Rosedale Ave, then north along Speedwell Avenue, past the reviewing stand at the corner of Franklin Place, opposite the railroad station, and continues north up Littleton Road to Route 53 north where it ends at the VFW Watnong Post 3401.

This year the grand marshals will be the Morris Plains Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Morris Plains 9/11 Committee, both recipients of the Borough’s Community Service Awards.

The Ladies Auxiliary’s Award, celebrating the group's 90th anniversary, was accepted by president Christine Tani, and members Patti Webster, Amy Rongo, Mickey Toye-Young, Mary Everitt and Pearl Law.

The 9/11 Committee Award, for leadership in building and dedication of the 9/11 Memorial last year, was accepted by Bob Webster, Mike Bozza, and Dave Schulz.

The parade, the largest in Morris County, consists of more than 100 units representing local and county organizations with 15 bands including the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni.

A highlight of the parade will be the flyover at about 10:30 AM by members of Chapter 52 of the International Acrobatic Club, located primarily in Northern New Jersey and surrounding areas flying mostly Pitts Specials. They will make several passes using smoke to mark the flight path.

The parade will also feature a number of animals including a miniature cow and a camel ridden by a local Dunkin' Donuts businessman.
