Morris Plains Community Garden Nears Completion

Gardeners will gather for a ribbon cutting on April 16.

Despite ankle-deep mud in the surrounding parking area due to recent rains, the Morris Plains Department of Public Works is determined to have the new community garden open for business on April 16. The impressive garden is divided neatly into plots, with paths covered in wood chips. The soil has been tilled, a high fence has been erected to keep out deer and an underground barrier has been installed to keep burrowing animals at bay.

According to George Ross, Community Garden Coordinator, "The Road Department has done a tremendous job in preparing the land, installing the water lines, staking out the plots and many other activities.  We could not be at this stage without their help."

The official opening of the garden will take place on Saturday, April 16 at noon, with the mayor and council on hand to preside over the ribbon cutting ceremony. All gardeners are encouraged to attend, meet their fellow gardeners and get their fence keys.
