Morris Plains Non-Profit Seeks Input From Manufacturers

NJMEP was formed to help New Jersey's small to mid-sized manufacturers to remain competitive.

The  located in Morris Plains, is asking owners and top executives of manufacturing firms to fill out a brief questionnaire by Tues., June 21. NJMEP is a non-profit that helps New Jersey’s small to mid-sized manufacturers to remain competitive. It is one of 59 such organizations in the U.S.

This latest effort is called the 2011 Next Generation Manufacturing Study, a follow-up to a similar study conducted in 2009. That study found a correlation between business success and use of six strategies:

  1. Customer-focused innovation
  2. Superior processes/improvement focus
  3. Human-capital management
  4. Supply-chain management and collaboration
  5. Sustainability
  6. Global engagement

"Two years later, we're interested in finding out what's changed for U.S. manufacturers in a post-recession economy," said John Brandt, CEO of the Manufacturing Performance Institute (MPI), which is involved in conducting the study.

NJMEP President & CEO Robert Loderstedt said the study will, "provide valuable data for manufacturers, business leaders and state and national policymakers regarding what's changed for U.S. manufacturers in a post-recession economy."
