Morris Twp: Caffrey, Benvenuto Face Grayzel, Reidy in Nov.

Uncontested primaries go as expected.

Just as expected, Republicans Daniel W. Caffrey and Andres Benvenuto will face Democrats Jeff Grayzel and Mary Marley Reidy in the November election for two open Morris Township council seats.

Caffrey, an incumbent, got 1,079 votes in his party's primary, trailed by Benvenuto at 957, according to unofficial results at Morris County's elections site. Like the Democrats, they were uncontested in their party primary, though there were 6 write-in votes. There are 5,407 registered Republicans in the township, according to the municipality.

Grayzel and Reidy each received 332 votes, and there were 5 write-ins in the Democratic primary. There are 4,362 registered Democrats in the township.

The overall primary turnout was approximately 17 percent of the 9,769 voters eligible to participate in the primary, according to the Morris Township clerk. The clerk's tallies for each race were slightly lower than those reported by the county Tuesday night, but the small discrepancy does not affect the outcome of the races.

At the county level, Morris Township residents preferred incumbent Republican Margaret Nordstrom for Morris County Freeholder over Hank Lyon 725-480. In November, the winner of that race will face Democrat Truscha Quatrone, who got 327 votes from Morris Township residents. .

Incumbent Republican State Sen. Anthony Bucco received 903 votes from Morris Township residents, as compared to the 369 the township's voters gave challenger William Chegwidden (currently a Morris County Freeholder). , and will face Democrat Rick Thoeni (who got 335 votes in Morris Township) in November. 

In the Assembly race, Republican incumbents Michael Patrick Carroll and Anthony M. Bucco (the state senator's son) received 986 and 902 votes from Morris Township residents. Challenger John G. Sierchio received 457 votes. , who each got 327 votes from Morris Township residents.
