New Fence to Curb Railway Trespassing in Morris Plains

Work on the fence extension along Route 53 to be completed Tuesday.

An additional 250 feet of fencing was erected along the railroad tracks along Route 53 in Morris Plains over the course of the last week and it was done, in part, for public safety.

"We wanted NJ Transit to extend the fence," Morris Plains Mayor Frank Druetzler said. "It only took them about a year, but they are finally doing it."

Druetzler said the thrust behind the request for the fence extension was public safety, as people have been cutting across the tracks.

"We did it to cut down on trespassers who are cutting across the tracks," Druetzler said. "The last thing we want is for an accident to happen and someone to get hit by a train."

Druetzler said how happy he ws when he saw the work being done on the fence.

"It made my day," Druetzler said.
