New Jockey Hollow Top Preserve Trail Opens Sat.

Mayor will hold ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m.

After countless hours of volunteer labor under the supervision of Morris Township Eagle Scout candidate Eric Minor, the new Jockey Hollow Top Preserve Trail is complete.

Mayor Scott Rosenbush will cut the ribbon to open the trail Saturday. It connects to the Jockey Hollow Top Preserve Loop Trail, reached from the Rolling Hill Drive cul-de-sac across from Saunders Park. Both trails are part of Morris Township’s Trails and Pathways Plan, coordinated by the Morris Township’s Trails Committee, the Open Space Committee, and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, according to an announcement from the township.

The trails are on properties recently purchased with Morris Township Open Space Trust funding.

The ribbon-cutting will be held at 11 a.m. at the trailhead, at the intersection of Mount Kemble Avenue (Route 202) and Frederick Place, about an eighth of a mile south of Harter Road. The trail crosses the Preserve hillside, and features a seasonal stream crossing with wildlife viewing. Seating areas were provided along the trail to rest on the inclines.
The public is invited to attend the trail opening ceremonies and enjoy hiking the new trails. Refreshments will be served.
