The governor has filed an intent to nominate the Republican assemblyman, who serves the 25th District, to be a superior court judge, according to PolitickerNJ.

The PolitickerNJ piece notes Carroll and Christie have often sparred politically, and Carroll beat Christie during the now-governor's failed bid for an Assembly seat.

Carroll bills himself on his website as New Jersey's most conservative legislator. He's at times stood apart from his own party, often taking stands based on libertarian-style ethics where his party leaned more moderately. He was recently the .
