Police Awards, Promotions in Morris Township

Two new officers will be starting soon.

Quite a few awards, promotions and other recognitions have occurred in the last month or so in the Morris Township Police Department. Here are five things you need to know:

  1. You Need To Know That Richard Ferrone Was Promoted to Captain: Ferrone was hired as a patrolman with the Morris Township Police Department in August of 1990. Prior to this promotion he was a Patrol Lieutenant. During that time, Capt. Ferrone served as the officer in charge of Training and the Traffic Safety Unit, while also serving as the department's Domestic Violence Liaison officer. He assisted in leading a delegation of 30 officers from Morris County to assist with the security for President Bush’s second inauguration. He is also an instructor at the Morris County Police Academy in RADAR, Emergency Vehicle Operations, and Motor Vehicle Law.
  2. You Need To Know That Ed Conrads Was Promoted to Lieutenant: Conrads has had a 25-year career with the Morris Township Police Department, most recently as the officer in charge of the detective bureau. He has won many department awards and was named Officer of the Year in 1999. At the swearing-in ceremony, he was called "One diamond in the diadem of the Morris Township Police Department" by committee member Peter Mancuso.
  3. You Need To Know That John McGuinness Was Named Officer of The Year : Chief Dennis Reilly explained that the department has two divisions, patrol and support services, each normally headed by a captain. Capt. McGuinness had to do both jobs for several months this year, Reilly said, adding that "Capt. McGuinness' leadership was critical in the transition to the County Communications Center."
  4. You Need To Know About The Officers With the Most Drunk Driving Arrests: Officers Brian Markt and Steven Crump were acknowledged for their arrests of suspected drunk drivers. They tied at 13 each over a one year period, which represented almost 30% of the department's 89 annual arrests.
  5. You Need To Know About The New Recruits: Two recent police academy graduates will begin working as probationary officers on June 27. They are Jeremiah "Reggie" Crowley and Jenna Landrigan.
