Plans Schools: Tell Us What You Think By Fri.

The Morris Plains School Board encourages residents to participate in a short survey to help it initiate a five-year plan.

Residents have just a few more days to take part in the Morris Plains Strategic Planning Community Survey, set out by the school board .

The survey will be open until Friday, March 23, and board members encourage  community members to voice their opinions in the 15-question poll to get as much feedback as possible for forming a five-year strategic plan.

"It's an opportunity for us to hear from all different members of the community ranging from younger adults all the way up to senior citizens," said a member of the State of the Schools Strategic Planning Committee, Denise Rawding.

The questionnaire asks residents to rate a variety of resources the town has to offer, such as programs available for different demographics, and public areas such as the community center and school facilities. Other questions addressed are the most favorable and challenging things in the town, and how residents typically get their school and community information.

The school board will use the feedback as an aid in creating the plan.

"It's a vital part of the strategic planning process," said Morris Plains Superintendent, Dr. Ernest Palestis.

The survey is the first step of this process, and was sent out by the board's State of the Community Committee, one of the two committees working on the five-year plan. The State of the School Committee is the other one, and its focus is on educational programs in the borough. The State of the Community mainly looks at demographics and funding issues.

Both committees will meet the first weekend in May at the Morris Plains Community Center for the next phase of the planning process. They will put together all of their research and information, and create an Action Plan Committee.

"The Action Plan Committee will take the information and the mission and vision that has been developed during the weekend, and then come up with the plan to achieve those goals," said Palestis.

Morris Plains residents can be a part of the planning process by filling out the short questionnaire. The survey can be found on the school homepage.  Anyone interested in volunteering on a strategic plan committee can contact Susan Vere at 973-538-1650, ext. 127.
