Primary Candidates Line Up in Morris Twp., Plains

In both the township and borough, several people have filed their petitions for the June primary.

Candidates have filed to run in primary races for open seats on the Morris Township Council and Morris Plains Committee.

The candidates who registered in Morris Plains are Republicans Laurie Fu and Joseph Cecala Jr. According to the borough clerk's office, no Democrats entered the race.

Morris Township's clerk could not be reached after Monday's filing deadline, but two Republicans have told Patch they are running — incumbent Township Committeeman and former Mayor H. Scott Rosenbush and Deputy Mayor Bruce Sisler. It was not immediately clear if further candidates had filed as well.

“We are running for re-election to ensure that Morris Township continues its tradition of fiscal responsibility and superior services. As The Daily Record reported last October, Morris Township was number two in the county in terms of the lowest tax rate increase, and we will continue to watch over taxpayers' money like it is our own,” Rosenbush said in an announcement sent by the Morris Township Republican Committee.

In the statement, Sisler added, “We cut the size of government over the last two years by more than 10 percent, yet the level of services has not been reduced in any meaningful way."

Sisler said the DPW team collected residents' leaves and cleaned up all of the debris from the August hurricane and October snowstorm, which is something he said other surrounding towns didn't do.
