Stick-in-the-Mud School Bus

Driver tried to avoid downed tree in Morris Township.

Some Assumption School students were delayed on their way to School Thursday, thanks to the after-effects of Hurricane Irene.

According to Sister Merris Larkin, principal of Assumption School, three students were onboard a bus from Wilkerson Transportation of Morristown when the bus driver came upon a downed tree.

The tree was on Lake Road, an area still saturated by the rains from recent storms.

"The driver tried to make a u-turn," she said. "I guess the front wheels sank in mud. The police were there, the bus company was there and they sent another bus to pick them up."

Asked if any of the children had been frightened by the experience, Sister Merris said, "None of them even said a word about it! I guess with everything that's been going on; earthquakes and hurricanes and floods, this wasn't a big deal."
