Morris Twp, Morris Plains Candidates Can Expect Smooth Sailing in Primaries

Filing deadline passed, election season officially underway.

The 2011 election season is officially underway. Candidates for municipal government in Morris Township and Morris Plains had until 4 p.m. Monday to file petitions to run for office.

In each race, two seats are open. And in each race, no more than two people will run for each party's nomination—meaning the primary elections will be uncontested unless a would-be write-in candidate campaigns.

The following people have thrown their hats into the ring:

In Morris Plains, running for the Republican nomination for two open council seats:

  1. George Coogan, incumbent
  2. Joseph Cecala, incumbent

In Morris Plains, running for the Democratic nomination:

  1. Frank Mangravite

In Morris Township, running for the Republican nomination for two open committee seats:

  1. Daniel Caffrey, incumbent
  2. Andres Benvenuto, Republican

In Morris Township, running for the Democratic nomination:

  1. Jeff Grayzel, Democrat
  2. Mary Marley-Reidy, Democrat
