Trade Center Steel to Rise Sunday in Morris Plains

An important milestone approaches in construction of the borough's 9-11 memorial.

The much-awaited Morris Plains 9-11 memorial will celebrate an important milestone Sunday when steel from the World Trade Center is put in place.

"The target time is noon," said Morris Plains Fire Chief Mike Geary, who shared his photos of the day in September when the steel arrived.

Back in May, where work has just begun. "If we have to work 24-7, we will have this done by September 9, 2011,” Bob Webster of the Morris Plains Volunteer Fire Department said at the time.

Borough clerk June Uhrin plans to be there. "It's going to be breathtaking," she said. According to Uhrin, police will be on-hand to show spectators where to park near the site, which is located at the intersection of Routes 53 and 202.
