FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Preschool Advantage Funds 64 Children, More on Waiting List
Sixty-four children from Morris County and surrounding communities have been selected by Preschool Advantage for funding their preschool education in the 2012-2013 school year. Another 7 have been placed on the waiting list with the hope that funds can be raised to send them to school next year.
The accepted students include 18 who return for a second year of preschool as four year olds, as well as 19 new four year olds and 26 new three year olds entering the program. Preschool Advantage sends these children to half day programs in high-quality local preschools. Their parents choose from the list of 19 Preschool Advantage partner schools ranging from traditional and Montessori preschools to church/synagogue-based programs.
Preschool Advantage affirms consistent research that shows preschool is the most cost-effective way to improve the education and life outcomes for lower income children. Many families earning over the current Head Start income limit ($22,500) for a family of four) find preschool education unaffordable, yet few private assistance sources exist. As more families struggle to provide their youngsters with quality education Preschool Advantage fills an important societal gap.
This local organization is supported by individual donors as well as grants from foundations and businesses. Donors share the non-profit’s objective of strengthening the community by giving lower income parents an opportunity to improve their children’s educational success. Some of Preschool Advantage’s major donors include: AAA New Jersey Automobile Club, Bank of America, Bayer Healthcare, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, and PNC Foundation.
Preschool Advantage was founded in 1995 by a Morristown family who were inspired by the benefits their son experienced by attending preschool. In fall, 2012 the organization will celebrate the milestone of sending more than 600 youngsters to preschool over its 17 year history.
