Five School-Related Activities You Need To Know About

Meetings, seminars and a reading challenge are on the schedule

If you have a school-age child, there are a number of events you'll need to know about this week, ranging from a program on cyberbullying to a reading challenge.

  1. You Need To Know That: the is meeting on Tuesday evening, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at Borough School.
  2. You Need To Know That: The Frelinghuysen Middle School Home and School Assocation will present a program for parents called, “Bullying, Cyberbullying and Youth Depression” by John Halligan, whose 13-year old son, Ryan, committed suicide in 2003 after being bullied at school. Reservations can now be made for the event, scheduled for Thursday, Mar. 10 7–8:30 p.m. in the Frelinghuysen Middle School Auditorium.   3. You Need To Know That: The Morris School District P.A.C.E. (Parent Advocacy Council for Education) is presenting  “How Difficult Can This Be?” The F.A.T. ( frustration, anxiety, tension) City Workshop" By Rick Lavoie, M.A., M.Ed. There will be a video presentation and discussion on the difficulties that kids with learning disabilities experience in the classroom. The presentation takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 10–11:45 a.m. at Thomas Jefferson School Auditorium, 101 James Street in Morristown.
  4. You Need To Know That: in Morris Plains will hold its Variety Show in two parts, on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. and Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at Borough School.
  5. You Need To Know That: You have until Feb. 25 to sponsor a Morris Plains student in the Reach for the Stars! Reading Challenge. Fifty percent of your pledge will purchase books for the student you are sponsoring, 25% will be combined with other pledges to buy books for the student's school library, and 25% cash will support Morris Plains Home & School Association programs. Online donations are accepted.
