German Students Celebrate Karneval

Students at the German School celebrate Karneval

The children at the German School of Morris County celebrated Karneval recently in the Dining Hall.

Karneval is the pre-Lenten celebration for Germans and German-Americans. It is sometimes called Fasching.

The fun often includes political spoofing that includes anointing a Prince and Princess to run the show at a time of year known as the "fifth season."

The party, which included sweets and a parade, was held at their meeting place at the  Morris Township-based school. Dozens of children who are learning the German language in after school lessons dressed in costumes for folk dancing. Some of the costumes included jokesters, jesters and clowns to celebrate,

The German School of Morris County, located at 70 Whippany Road, Morris Township, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preparing students for the global economy by teaching German to native and non-native speakers of all ages and celebrating the cultures of Germany, Austria and Switzerland with year-round events.
