Join Morristown-Beard in Helping 'Weekend Hungry'

The Backpack Program provides food on weekends to at-risk kids.

Did you know that 1 in 5 children in New Jersey are living at the edge of poverty and don’t have enough to eat? That is almost 400,000 kids who woke up hungry this morning, may go to bed hungry tonight, and never know if they will get enough to eat.

How can you help? Members of the Morristown-Beard community are being asked to continue a tradition of caring by donating child-friendly food to benefit The Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s Backpack Program.

The Backpack Program provides food on weekends to at-risk kids whose only source of regular food may be the free school lunch program.

Most needed foods include:

* 100% Fruit Juice in single serving bottles, boxes or pouches
* Peanut Butter and Jelly in plastic jars
* Small boxes of nutritious Cereal
* Shelf stable Milk
* Breakfast Bars and Granola Bars
* Individual packaged Peanut Butter or Cheese Crackers
* Fruit and Applesauce cups
* Small boxes of Raisins or other Dried Fruit
* Prepared Pudding cups
* Single-serve microwave Soup, Ravioli or Mac and Cheese

Single serving, individually packaged items are most needed. Please no glass jars.

The goal for the drive is to collect enough food to feed 544 children for one weekend – one child for every student at Morristown-Beard School.

Members of the community can drop off food in the Middle School Commons by September 26th. Those who would prefer to make a monetary donation can go to the Madison Hunger Action virtual food drive by clicking here to contribute.

Thanks in advance for your help. Together, we can really make a difference in the lives of hungry children in New Jersey.
