Morris Plains Cancels School Choice Presentation

Limited seating causes the district to scale back on promoting the program.

Earlier this week, the Morris Plains School District announced a presentation for Oct. 7 to inform interested parties in the options available for getting their child into the district.

Friday, the district cancelled the presentation

In 2013, the State of New Jersey selected the Morris Plains School District as a New Jersey Department of Education Choice District. For the 2014-2015 school year, the Morris Plains School District will continue to welcome Choice students.

This means that residents of other communities may attend the Morris Plains School District free of charge in the 2014-2015 school year.

According to Susan Vere, administrative assistant to the superintendent, the number of seats they anticipated having decreased dramatically from what was expected.

"We were anticipating a significant number of available seats for the 2014-2015 school year, but the state informed us yesterday that we have a very limited number of seats available," Vere said.
