Morris Plains Ratchets Up School Security

Dozens of security cameras now installed.

School security has been an increasing concern in the hearts and minds of parents, students and administrators across the nation over the past few years. In Morris Plains, the district has recently taken a leap forward in security in the Borough and Mountain Way schools.

“The safety of every student and staff member in the Morris Plains School District is of utmost importance,” Morris Plains Superintendent Mark Maire said. “We have taken several key steps to update our security systems and procedures at both Borough School and Mountain Way School.”

Procedurally, the district has crafted an emergency school closing flow chart to streamline fast action and eliminate confusion. But the big leap forward is a technological one as the district has installed nearly 50 security cameras.

“We collaborated and coordinated efforts with the Morris Plains Police Department to map the locations of the internal and external security cameras in both buildings,” Maire said. “ In addition, we are working closely with the Morris Plains Police Department in order to share access to our security cameras, were they can help to monitor our building and grounds, whenever necessary.”

Joining the 28 indoor and 19 outdoor cameras are new walkie talkies which will enhance communication within the school as needed.
