Morris Plains to Honor Volunteers, Staff, Students

Grant from Investors Savings Bank will go toward an upgraded middle school science lab.

The Morris Plains Board of Education will recognize at Tuesday night's meeting the district's volunteers, staff and students.

There will be a presentation of a $2,500 check awarded from the Morris Plains branch of to the Education Foundation of Morris Plains.

The money will go toward the middle school science lab for digital microscopes and other equipement.

According to a statement released about the grant, the check will be presented by Jessica Ballew, the branch manager of the Morris Plains Investors Bank.

“We are thrilled to receive this grant from Investors Savings Bank for this effort to enhance the science lab,” Suzanne Schafer Skalski, president of the EFMP, said in the statement. "As a New Jersey business, Investors has chosen to invest locally, which we appreciate. Our children will benefit for years to come. We look forward to future partnerships with Investors Bank and other corporations.”

According to the statement, the EFMP was founded in 2010 by community members to locate other funding sources to support the district. The group hosted the first-ever house tour of Morris Plains last year, and has created a Teacher Tribute program. 

So far, the group has funded individual teacher grants and donated two ELMO projector cameras to Morris Plains classrooms.
