Morristown-Beard Girls' Ice Hockey Wins Championship

Crimson repeat as champs of the Women's Interscholastic Hockey League of the Mid-Atlantic.

For the third time in the past four seasons, the girls’ ice hockey team has captured the Women’s Interscholastic Hockey League of the Mid-Atlantic (WIHLMA) championship.

The Crimson took the title on Feb. 13 following a convincing 6-1 win over Portledge (N.Y.) at Rye Country Day School.

Laura Mead ’12 and Alysa Bufis ’11 tallied two goals and one assist apiece for Morristown-Beard, which registered 41 shots on goal in the game. Allie Aiello ’13 added a goal and two assists while Justine Wnek ’11 had a goal and an assist in the victory. MBS goalie Katherine Chester ’13 turned away 12 shots.

To advance to the finals, Morristown-Beard shut-out Rye Country Day School, 5-0, on February 12th. Brette Brier ’13 and Justine Wnek ’11 netted two goals apiece and Laura Mead ’12 had a goal and two assists to lead the offensive attack. 

Zoe Zisis ’11 stopped 19 shots to record the shut-out for the Crimson.

Morristown-Beard’s record now stands at a perfect 17-0 for the season. The team's final game of the season will be played on Thursday, Feb. 17 against perennial powerhouse Lawrenceville.
