As Katherine Merwin prepares for college, she’ll be bringing with her some extra money and an award to boot.

The recently-graduated Morristown High School alumna is being honored this summer with a Hickory Tree Chorus Award and Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for her commitment to vocal music education, according to a press release from the organization.

Meriwn has performed with numerous choirs throughout high school including the All-Eastern Choir of 2013, the New Jersey Mixed Chorus of 2011, 2012, and 2013, the New Jersey Region I Chorus of 2012 and 2013, and her high school’s choir.  She was ranked number two out of all choristers in both All-State Choruses for 2013 in New Jersey and first in the Northern Region in 2013.  In 2013-14 she was also a finalist for the New Jersey Governor’s award in Vocal Music, the statement said.

Merwin will attend Boston University in the fall and pursue a degree in vocal performance. She will receive the award on July 16 at a ceremony and perform thereafter.
