Morristown High, Frelinghuysen on Split Schedules Wednesday

Pre-K through fifth grade will be full day, with students from several schools still without power relocating to other buildings.

It's one day at a time for the Morris School District, which will be reopening Wednesday after over a week off because of Hurricane Sandy-related issues.

But, just because school will be in session does not mean everything will be business as usual. Because of ongoing power outages at Frelinghuysen Middle School, those students will report to Morristown High School for a split session in the morning, 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Morristown High School students will then head there from noon to 4 p.m.

While all pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade schools will have full days on Wednesday, students from Hillcrest Avenue School will report to Alfred Vail School while students from Alexander Hamilton School will report to Sussex Avenue School.

While Hillcrest has remained without power since Sandy hit our area, Alexander Hamilton had power restored, but lost it again when a garbage truck hit a power line at Washington and Mills streets Tuesday morning.

Thomas Jefferson School, which had been without power and heat—resulting in its polling location being moved to Town Hall—is back online, Morris School District representative Mary Donohoe said.

Bus service will get students to their appropriate school. FMS walkers should report to the school by 7:15 a.m., where a bus will then transport them to the high school.

As for what the district plans to do on Thursday, "we're doing it one day at a time," Donohoe said. "It's definitely day-by-day."

Will the teachers actually "teach" the students who do attend, with so many students opting to not attend?
