Local company gifts $8K to area students.

Area students recently were awarded $1,000 scholarships from BASF, a Florham Park-based chemical company.

Eight graduating seniors received the awards, to be applied toward their college tuition:

  • Morristown High School— Gabriella Talarico and Christopher Bechtold, who are both going to Rutgers-New Brunswick;
  • Hanover Park High School—Jessica Merberg, who is going to Boston College and Eric Wien, who is going to attend Rutgers-New Brunswick;
  • Morris Hills High School—Amanda Jan, who is going to Johns Hopkins University and Brian Dougherty, who is going to Vanderbilt University;
  • Morris Knolls High School—David Lewus is going to SUNY Binghamton and Emily Chen is going to Princeton University.

“As the world’s leading chemical company, we make it a priority to support and encourage students who demonstrate a strong aptitude for science," said Robin Rotenberg, vice president, Corporate Communications for BASF in North America. “Their technology-based degrees will open a world of opportunity in science-related professions, including possible careers at BASF.”

The scholarships were presented by BASF representatives during the senior awards ceremonies at each of the students’ schools.
