Plantings Will Spruce Up Borough School

Beautification Committee has a project for plantings and benches

The front of Morris Plains Borough School will be greener by summer after a Home and School Association project is complete.

The board of education approved the project on Tuesday, Jan 24, allowing the HSA to start selling plants to be planted across the front of the school and around the new sign. The HSA will also install pavers and benches near the Borough School entrance, Amy Cunningham, co-chair of the Beautificaltion Committee and project, said.

Cunningham and her co-chair Maureen McEntee are hoping people who purchase the plants will dedicate them to a student, teacher or alumnus. They are also hoping borough organizations will purchase plants to support the project.

The pavers and four benches can also be funded through donations dedicated to someone, Cunningham said.

Coincidentally, an audience member asked the board at Tuesday’s meeting is there was a way she could dedicate a bench to her father, Cunningham said.

The design for the project is by Jen Burns, a local landscape designer.

The HAS is setting up a web page for the sale of the plants. Photos of the plants, probably bushes, lilies and boxwood, will be featured and donors will be able to order and pay directly on line, Cunningham said.
