Morris Plains School Survey Is Online

Morris Plains School District is asking for input

As part of its Strategic Planning Initiative, the Morris Plains School District has developed a questionnaire for all community residents.

The questionnaire is on the school district home page.

The survey asks the public to rate opportunities and programs for various segments of the population and the public spaces in the borough. It asks the most favorable aspects of living in the borough and the biggest challenges to living there. It also asks if the community has the opportunity to be involved with the schools and the best sources of information about the schools and the community as a whole.

The public is also asked to rate the importance of the programs the school district offers that go beyond what is mandated by the state. These programs include after-school sports; art; technology expansion; courtesy busing; clubs such as drama, chess and yearbook; music and full-day kindergarten.

The greatest strengths of the district are also on the survey. Options offered are: small size, extracurricular activities, quality of curriculum, supportive/engaged families of students, financial support from the community, effective administration/teaching staff, well-maintained facilities, sending students to Morristown High School and use of technology. There is an option to added strengths.

Also offered are options for the public to choose the areas the school district needs to address: maintain the stability of the school administration, maintain the stability of the teaching staff, alternative sources of school funding, increasing academic performance, expanding the use of technology, working with the legislature to increase state aid, lengthen the school day and improve the facilities and/or grounds. Those filling out the survey can add options as well.

The survey also seeks ideas from the public and a phone number for questions, 973-538-1670 ext. 127.
