Morris Actor Wants to be on Your TV for Super Bowl

(And he'd have a bag of Doritos in hand.)

Just in case it’s true most people watch the Super Bowl for the commercials, Morris Township resident Kevin Anton hopes he’s the star of the show.

Anton, an actor, filmed a commercial in and entered it in a contest sponsored by Frito Lay for Doritos. The top five entries, chosen by Doritos, win $25,000 and a trip to the Super Bowl.

When the top five are announced, the public will get a chance to preview the commercials and vote for their favorites. The winning commercial will air during the Super Bowl, and the winning producer will take home $1 million.

He scheduled the taping for the day after the October snowstorm. On the theory that a location near the Convent Station rail station would make it easy for the cast and crew, Anton chose the home of a friend, Eric Glover—better known to fans of Morristown's as "Fluffy" or "the Ticket-Taker Guy," (Fluffy's also got a moment in the commercial, but if you blink, you'll miss him).

The theory made sense until the storm shut down New Jersey Transit. The storm also wreaked havoc with plans for the refreshments Anton and his wife, Gina, were planning, since they needed electricity to cook.

But the biggest problem was the money Anton could lose if the equipment he rented couldn’t be used.

Afraid no one would be able to get to Convent Station, Anton couldn’t sleep the night after the storm. But, the next morning, cars kept pulling up.

Hot water melted most of the snow, and the show went on.

Anton stars in the commercial as “Chuck,” who loses his senses after eating one Dorito. It is a spoof on a scene from the movie “Old School.” Taping ran from dawn to dusk and ran through more than 15 big bags of Doritos.

Gina Anton said the hardest part was editing 90 minutes of raw footage into a 30-second spot.

Anton is confident in his chances. Should he be in the top five, to be announced Jan. 4, he will travel to Indianapolis for the Frito Lay private Super Bowl party.

The top three in USA Today’s Ad Meter rankings will result in prizes of $400,000, $600,000 and $1 million.

By Friday, the commercial had been viewed on Dorito's CrashTheSuperBowl.com site more than 3,500 times.

Besides Anton and Glover, the cast includes Meredith Riley Stewart, Sean S. Allison, Anthony Meade, Sean Klenert, Jim Meade, John McGinley, Danielle Saczawa, Jonathan Smith, Aletha Jones, Jay Mott, Morgan Griglik, Melissa Streett, Terissa Schor and John McHale. The crew was Shawn Hellinger, Henry Torbin, Sam Cadet, Lily May, John McHale, Terissa Schor, Jesse Connor, Jennie K. Gallagher and Shaun-Kay Rose Hinds.
