Morristown Bounced From MCT by Delbarton

Green Wave in control from opening face off.

The Morristown High School boys lacrosse team dropped a tough Morris County Tournament semifinal game to Delbarton, 11-3, on Saturday afternoon at Madison High School.

Top-seeded Delbarton (10-3) came out on fire in this one, building a 6-1 first half lead, holding Morristown scoreless through the first quarter, and handing the Colonials their first loss of the season.

The Colonials (12-1) struggled to handle Delbarton’s surplus of depth all game being outscored in all but one quarter on Saturday.

“That’s a very good team,” Morristown head coach Jeff Bigas said of Delbarton. “All of the stuff that you hear about Delbarton is true, they run a lot of guys and a lot of very talented guys.”

Senior attackmen Clay Haarmann and Patrick Foley helped lead Delbarton to the MCT finals as each netted three goals and two assists, forcing Morristown to use three different goalies during the contest.  John Shaffer also added two goals and one assist for Delbarton in the win.

“Our goal has been to get back to the finals and win this thing and it was a good team effort and we’re pleased with the outcome,” Delbarton head coach Chuck Ruebling said.We talked about playing more as a team and that when everyone is on the same page, and no one is out for themselves, that good things happen for us.”

While the final score depicts a very tough loss for Morristown, Bigas was happy to see his team show off its toughness against a quality opponent.

“We fought with them,” he said, “it was a physical battle. I think we could have given them a better game but I’m proud of the guys, they fought hard against one of the best teams in the state.”

For Morristown, Brad Hersh, Brian Begley and Alex Schunk each scored.

“We learned a lot about a lot of people today,” Bigas said. “And that’s important to know going into to some big regular season games this week.”
