This Fifth-Grader Glides Down Snowy Mountains, Makes Sense of Finance With Ease

Eleven-year-old Callie Sundin is a Whiz Kid.

For many of us, to be able to ski, or to make sense of complicated financial markets, would be an accomplishment. To do both would be an enormous feat.

Now, imagine being able to do both at age 11.

That's exactly what Callie Sundin, a fifth-grader at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, has already accomplished. That's why we named her our "Whiz Kid" of the week.

Callie, which Morristown Patch  for her award from the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) Foundation, for her winning entry in a national contest, also was recently ranked No. 1 in New Jersey in her age group for her skiing prowess by the New Jersey Ski Racing Association, the governing body for USSA alpine ski racing in New Jersey. As a result of the placement, Callie was named to the New Jersey State Team and will compete against all the top racers in the Northeast USA at Gunstock, N.H., on Saturday, March 19.

As Betsy Sundin, Callie's mother, puts it, "It is a great sport–and her dedication and skill is very impressive."
