Family Day, Fireworks and 'Petriotic' Parade on Tap

4th of July will be celebrated as families and their pets will enjoy rides and entertainment.

Residents have a fun-filled day of Fourth of July events happening on Saturday, at 10 a.m. at the Farmers Market and later with the annual Family Day and Fireworks to end the night.

The "petriotic" festivities will take place throughout the Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and at 5 p.m., Family Day activities will start at Morris Plains Community Park.

The annual Family Day celebration will have a variety of activities for all ages in the community. Organizers are expecting thousands to attend the event, and draw many surrounding towns for the fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

Food and drinks will be for sale during the day. The Municipal Alliance, swim team, little league and other organizations will have food booths set up for fundraising.

"It's always a fun day," Councilwoman and liaison to the Recreation Commission Laurie Fu said. "It's mostly volunteers pitching in to bring it together. It's always a fun community spirit kind of event."

Fu, who has lived in the borough for nearly 20 years, can't remember a summer without Family Day.

She said she's most looking forward to the fireworks. The show will begin at 9:30 p.m and will be run by Morris Plains Republican Candidate Joseph Cecala Jr., who has been the director of the fireworks for years.
