Morris Township, Morris Plains Heat Index to Hit 100 Degrees this Week

Stay cool, hydrated and indoors if you can. There's a heat advisory for Monday

On Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Morris Township and Morris Plains from noon to 8 p.m. on Monday.

The heat index is 100 degrees on Monday with highest heat index from 2 – 6 p.m. The highs/lows for this week in the township and borough are:

  • Monday 94/69
  • Tuesday 95/70
  • Wednesday 96/75
  • Thursday  95/74
  • Friday 94/74

NOAA also issued a hazardous weather outlook for this week.

“A period of very hot and humid weather is expected for this week. Heat index values may reach 100 to 104 on Wednesday and Thursday,” according to the NOAA.

These advisories are extended to Morris, Somerset, Middlesex and Western Monmouth counties.

Possible impacts include fatigue, sunstroke, muscle cramps, and/or heat exhaustion. Children and the elderly are more susceptible. The NOAA warns against leaving pets and kids in a non-air conditioned car during the day, which can become fatal.

Earlier this month in Virginia, an 8-month-old baby was pronounced dead after it was left in a car by accident by the mother. Temperatures climbed above 90 degrees that day.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay cool and out of the sun, wear loose, light clothes and check in with relatives and neighbors. Do most of your strenuous activity in the early morning or evening.
