Township Committee Member to Perform at Concert

Daniel Caffrey will take the stage with country band Due South on Tuesday at Ginty Park.

Daniel Caffrey has been involved with Morris Township for many years—serving on the committee, coaching little league, and serving as a second lieutenant in the Fairchild Fire Co.—but on Tuesday, the community will see a side of him they never have before.

The 52-year-old township committee member is making his debut at the Morris Township concert series next week, when he will perform with one of New Jersey's top country band's Due South on July 31.

Caffrey, who has lived in the township for 19 years with his wife Lorraine and three children, Amanda, Brian and Joey, will join the band by playing his guitar at on Tuesday.

"I'm just looking forward to going up with Due South," Caffrey said. "I've heard them before and I'm looking forward to jumping up with them and filling in on some rhythm guitar and some songs, and having some fun."

The concert will start at 7 p.m. and is expected to draw hundreds, as it is one of the last summer this year.

Although this is Caffrey's first performance at the concert series, he has been playing the guitar since he was 12. While he says he played mostly when he was younger in garage bands, Caffrey has managed to keep up with it as a side hobby while he maintains a full-time job as a financial advisor for a major financial services company.

Caffrey, who is currently serving his fourth year on the township committee, will join the four other band members—Karyn Michaels on bass and vocals, John Bennett on guitar and lead vocals, Gregg Aleo on keyboard, and Kevin Hoban on drums and vocals—in playing some country music hits.

They will play covers from country favorites Sugarland, Lady Antebellum, Toby Keith, and even a song from Bon Jovi, "Who Say's You Can't Go Home."

While Caffrey said he doesn't have a favorite, he said he just enjoys playing the instrument.

Due South, who has performed in Morris Township before, approached Caffrey to play this summer. Caffrey said he met the band through the recreation programs and they invited him to join.

This is the largest crowd Caffrey has played in since high school when he performed in battle of the band type events.

Caffrey says he's excited to have some fun, and will have many friends and family in the audience watching him take the stage in the town he has been such a big part of for nearly two decades.
