Wreaths Dedicated Despite Morris Plains Parade Cancellation

The parade was called off due to weather. Thee memorial service will be Monday Morning

This morning, the skies did not look promising and the 27th Annual Morris Plains Memorial Day Parade was called off. Morris Plains Police Department sent out an alert at 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning announcing that it "has been cancelled due to weather."

The parade originally was to include about 100 marching units with Morris Plains Firefighter Don Geary as the grand marshal this year.

"The ceremony was not held but we did place the flower arrangements at Roberts Garden," said Parade Chairman Steve Welsh. "The VFW Post 3401 will hold their Memorial Service on Monday, May 27th at 11 a.m. at the Post Home on Rt. 53 in Morris Plains. The public is invited and the Mayor and Council will attend."

Flags were put up at the nearby Arthur's Tavern's Reflection Garden.

"Hats for each of the lines of services may be put up tomorrow (at the Reflection Garden). (They) will probably be up through Wednesday (that’s been our practice in the past)," said Alyce McGreevy, owner of Arthur’s Tavern
