Steampunk at Speedwell Coming in Oct.

Historic Speedwell becomes Steampunk City Oct. 12 and 13.

Steampunks and lovers of history are invited to a weekend-long immersion festival into the mid 1880s,   “International Steampunk City: Steampunk at Speedwell” from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct. 13 at Historic Speedwell on Route 202.

Visitors will to have an opportunity to use a unique blend of history and science to walk through time in a world of machines, gears, and springs powered by steam.

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery, generally in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. The Speedwell event event is set in a time period of unknown origins at Historic Speedwell in Morristown. Steampunk also refers to any of the artistic styles, clothing fashions, or subcultures that have developed from the aesthetics of steampunk fiction, Victorian-era fiction, art nouveau design, and films from the mid-20th century. All experienced Steampunks and history lovers or those who want to attend are invited.

Historic Speedwell offers a sampling of the latest advance in temporal exploration through one-stop shopping experiences, varied discussions and workshops and e demonstrations of crafts and trades.

There will be musicians, performers and entertainers. Participants are invited to arrive at registration wearing favorite Victorian or Steampunk day-wear.
