St. Virgil Roman Catholic Parish
973-538-1418
St Virgil Roman Catholic Parish was established in 1881, and is one of 111 Catholic parishes in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paterson. The current church building was dedicated in 1957. The parish serves about 1800 families, and many of the children attend the schools on site, St. Virgil Academy (pre-K through grade 5) and the Morris Catholic Junior School (grades 6 through 8). St. Virgil's parishioners are involved in a wide variety of groups and ministries, including an ongoing food drive to benefit the Interfaith Food Pantry, an Appalachian outreach program and preparation and serving of food for the Community Soup Kitchen in Morristown. A group of volunteers hand-knits and crochets shawls for those in need of comfort, while other parish volunteers create handmade quilts for AIDS patients.
