Serving the community since 1907, the Morris Plains Fire Department is a volunteer organization that has more than 50More members. The firefighters are often called upon to assist neighboring towns in cases of large fires. They also aid police by providing support following car accidents. More than 300 years of history are explored in the Morris Plains Borough Museum. Its collection includes historicMore photographs, maps, postcards, clothing, artifacts and artwork. Among the Museum's most prized possessions are a squirrel-tail-style fire pump, used by the borough's first fire department. 

The Morris Plains Museum's stated mission is to "connect the past to the present and make Morris Plains's vibrant history tangible, relevant and meaningful for today's community and for generations to come."

The Morris Plains Museum dates back to 1974. It has been in its present location since 2005.

The Morris Plains Borough Police Department has 3 divisions:

  • The Patrol Division handles criminalMore activity, accidents, traffic, fire and other community service needs.
  • The Detective Bureau follows up on crime investigations started by the Patrol Division and starts its own investigations. This division is responsible for evidence, records and reports.
  • The Support Division takes care of the department's administrative needs.

An illustration of the department's activity-level can be seen in the statistics from the month of August, 2010, when the department handled 2,679 calls, which included 25 arrests, 27 motor vehicle crashes and 258 motor vehicle stops.
