Potential new owners have submitted plans to town that would call for larger dining area, smaller bar area.
A Morristown icon will be gone by the end of the year. The Facebook page for Hennessey's Washington Bar, on Morris Street, announced Tuesday afternoon the business had been sold and would be closing by the end of the year. Hennessey's has been sold," the Facebook message reads. "We will be here through the end of the year. We will keep you posted as to our closing date and the end of an era in Morristown. So, come down for some cheer and tears." During Tuesday's council meeting, Town Clerk Matthew Stechauner noted the person-to-person liquor license transfer—not yet …

Agreement made to stop serving alcohol at 11 p.m. at proposed Gran Cantina Mexican restaurant, reduce bar size, among other conditions.
Every bar owner should not be painted with the same brush. That, according to James Cavanaugh, whose Iron Bar liquor license extension into space formerly occupied by Zebu Forno was approved by Town Council Tuesday night. Councilwoman Raline Smith-Reid cast the lone dissenting vote. Councilwoman Alison Deeb recused herself, citing an "in-kind" donation from Iron Bar for her freeholder campaign earlier this year during a fundraiser. Conditions placed on the extension for a new Mexican restaurant concept include reducing bar size from 18 seats to 12, and forcing the stoppage of alcohol sales at 11 p.m. The longtime Morristown property owner said he expects the conditions will cause him to lose a lot of profit. Cavanaugh—known by many as …

Owners of Tashmoo had sought to utilize 7,000-square-foot area behind 10 DeHart St. for 23 days a year.
The latest proposal by owners of several bars in town was shot down by Town Council Tuesday night. The council rejected a proposal by owners of Tashmoo to extend the liquor license attached to its DeHart Street restaurant to a 7,000-square-foot outdoor space behind adjacent 10 DeHart St., for an outdoor bar that would operate 23 days out of the year. As had been the case last summer when members of the Walsh family—who also own nearby Dark Horse Lounge and Sona Thirteen—submitted a proposal for a bowling alley with a rooftop bar at 10 DeHart St., several residents spoke out against the idea. "I was pleased Town Council rejected [the bowling alley]," Community Place resident Cynthia Jeffrey said. "But, when you cut off one head of the Hydra…
