A 28-year-old Morris Plains man faces several charges after he barricaded himself in a Burch Drive residence for hours Sunday night, causing about 20 neighbors to be evacuated, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said. Stephen Gant was charged with fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree criminal mischief. Gant is being held at the Morris County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail with a 10 percent option. According to the prosecutor's office, Gant barricaded himself and threatened to harm himself with a knife Sunday night inside his family's Burch Drive residence. Authorities shut down a Morris Plains neighborhood Sunday night. Mountain Way was closed in both directions leading to Burch Drive. UPDATE: Barricaded man threatened to harm himself inside Burch Drive residence, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said. Officers blocking the roadway declined to comment Sunday night about the police activity.
