Morristown Police report recent 'string of burglaries' in different parts of town.
The Morristown Police Department asks residents to be alert after a string of burglaries have recently been reported in different parts of town. "The Bureau of Police are working diligently with citizens and neighborhood associations in order to investigate these reports," according to a Nixle.com release. "We are asking for the public's assistance. We understand that less time is spent outdoors this time of year, but residents are asked to maintain awareness within their neighborhoods. Please report all suspicious activity or people to the police immediately." Reputed James Bond Gang members caught after alleged Connecticut burglary, Morris County incidents still under investigation, prosecutor says.
A team of investigators arrested five members of a burglary crew suspected of targeting high-end homes across North Jersey, including in Morris and Somerset counties, just as the thieves were trying to crack open a stolen safe at a Bergen County garage late Thursday, authorities said. Five Englewood men were charged after investigators learned they had burglarized a home in a wealthy section of Greenwich, Conn., the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday. Items taken from the home, including the safe, were seized in the bust, along with burglary tools. Several of the men have lengthy criminal histories, some with links to the James Bond Gang, a high-end burglary syndicate rooted in Teaneck and Englewood. "I have taken the …

Masked thieves continue to target wealthy neighborhoods, use electronics to avoid detection.
A sophisticated gang of thieves are continuing to carefully select unoccupied homes in wealthy neighborhoods and plot quick escape routes often to the nearest highway, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said. According to a statement released Friday by Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi, the crew has targeted high-end homes in quiet neighborhoods, often on a cul-de-sac and along the interstate corridors for a quick getaway. The crew, which has been compared to the infamous James Bond Gang, has used luxury rental vehicles to blend into the communities, Bianchi said. The thieves are believed to be responsible for burglaries in Boonton Township, Chatham, Chester, Hanover, Harding, Kinnelon, Long Hill, Mendham, Montville, Morris …

Current band of thieves burglarizing North Jersey homes follow same pattern as infamous group.
They've been caught on a home security video wearing masks breaking into a Chatham residence and an apparent getaway car—a silver Porsche with New York license plates—was spotted in Parsippany last week. But the band of thieves who are believed to be responsible for numerous high-end residential burglaries throughout North Jersey, including in Morris and Somerset counties, continue to elude authorities. The burglary ring shares similar characteristics to the James Bond Gang, the band of thieves known for their exotic getaway cars and sophisticated style. However, the current thieves are not believed to be part of the infamous group. Authorities from several municipalities where the thieves have struck met this week with members of the …

Alarm warning stickers, brackets among measures that could help prevent the kinds of break-ins seen in Madison and Morris Township recently, Madison police say.
While window air-conditioning units keep rooms cool, but they also can give thieves an easy way to access homes. Police in Morris Township and Madison have reported five break-ins in the past two months in which homes were entered by having window AC units pushed in, and similarities have led police to wonder if a single "AC Bandit" might be responsible for the five incidents. On Friday, the Madison Police Department distributed a list with tips to prevent such crimes, including ways homeowners can secure their window AC units with items from the hardware store, and by installing alarms or at least making would-be burglars think the setup is alarmed. The method of breaking in "is common but can easily be prevented," police said. The full …

Police, neighborhood watch group to speak to residents following string of burglaries.
The Morris Township Police Department and a neighborhood watch group will hold a special meeting Tuesday night after a fourth in a recent string of residential burglaries occurred Sunday on Burnham Road. The police and the Washington Valley Neighborhood Watch Civic Association will hold the meeting at the Washington Valley Schoolhouse at 7:30 p.m. "The meeting is to advise the neighbors over there what is going on, currently what we're doing, and ask them to help us because there's a chance maybe someone has seen this individual and did not call us," Acting Police Chief John McGuinness said. The most recent burglary occurred Sunday afternoon when a Burnham Road resident likely scared off a burglar who police believe is responsible for …

The following arrest information was supplied by the Morris Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
Morris Township police say they scored a double on Friday, when a man they arrested for allegedly breaking into a local restaurant was found to have items reported stolen from several unlocked cars. Eugene Hayes, 39, of Morristown, was charged with burglary and theft from the restaurant, plus burglary and theft from the unlocked car, police said. At 2:30 a.m. on May 27, according to police, a burglar alarm was activated at the Yummy Yummy Chinese Restaurant on Speedwell Ave. in Morris Township because the business had been broken-into through a rear door. Capt. Rich Ferrone said that the presence of extra police patrols in the area, prompted by recent thefts from unlocked cars in both Morris Township and Morris Plains, allowed police to …
