A Morris Township man is facing charges of driving while intoxicated and more following a reported hit-and-run accident near Frederick Place March 16, according to a Morris Township Police Department statement. Capt. Richard Ferrone said officers went to a Frederick Place residence to document a hit-and-run collision and found the person who had made the call, 44-year-old Henri Linden, intoxicated. Linden told officers that his vehicle was the victim of a hit-and-run collision in Morristown, the statement said. A 22-year-old man who was allegedly drunk when he struck a pickup truck and fled the scene was arrested after the truck's owner followed him to his Morris Township home, police said. Ryan Barnett, of Sussex Avenue, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident shortly after 2 a.m. on Dec. 23. 'Drunk Driving Enforcement' program participation set for 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
As if you already didn't have plenty of reasons not to drink and drive, the Morristown Police Department would like to offer one more. From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, Morristown officers will be conducting sobriety checkpoints throughout town as part of the national "Drunk Driving Enforcement" program to stop drunk driving. Through the use of a grant provided by the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, officers will be assigned to roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints in order to identify and arrest motorists who are driving while intoxicated, according to a press release. Randolph resident overturns Jeep on West Hanover Avenue early Friday morning.
A Randolph man was more than twice over the legal limit when his vehicle overturned early Friday morning on West Hanover Avenue in Morris Township, police said. Vikash Amin, 25, registered a .18 percent blood-alcohol level and was charged with DWI, reckless driving, a cell phone violation and failure to keep right, Morris Township Police Capt. Rich Ferrone said. According to Ferrone, Amin was heading westbound on West Hanover Avenue at about 2 a.m. when he swerved into the other lane, flipped his car, and landed on the lawn of Homeless Solutions, located at 540 West Hanover Ave. Amin told police he crashed his 2005 Jeep because he swerved to avoid a deer while he was on the phone, Ferrone said. An allegedly drunk Summit man resisted arrest after he was caught speeding on East Hanover Avenue Saturday night, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Morris Township Police Department. Joseph F. Stefans, 58, was charged with DWI, reckless driving, refusal to submit a breath sample, speeding, third-degree resisting arrest, obstruction and disordly conduct. Stefans was pulled over by Officer Chris Tongring Saturday night just after 11:30 p.m., police said. Stefans was allegedly traveling 50 miles per hour in a 30-miles-per-hour zone, according to Capt. Morristown police say a Morris Township resident was arrested after his vehicle hit a road safety sign and he was found with an open can of beer. Eliijah Pettiway, 63, of Livingston Road in Morris Township, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving and having an open alcoholic beverage at 6:59 p.m. on May 4. Officer Deanna Dietrich was parked on Clyde Potts Drive when she observed Pettiway drive past, cross over the double-yellow lines and strike the "Yield to Pedestrians" sign, according to her report. When she approached Pettiway's vehicle, he seemed unaware as to why he was being stopped by police, according to the report. Morris Township police arrested 15 people for alleged impaired driving during a crackdown between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day, the police department said Friday. In one case, a driver's blood-alcohol content was as high as .22 percent, police said. Those arrests and other charges were the result of saturated patrols and one DWI checkpoint, funded by a grant from the Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund, police said. Police also issued issued 33 summonses for alleged speeding, 23 for alleged careless driving, 10 for allegedly driving without a license, give for allegedly driving with a revoked license, five for alleged reckless driving, and one for alleged uninsured driving, police said. A passing motorist tipped Morris Township officers off to an alleged drunk driver, police said. Ptl. Mark Osterhoudt had a vehicle pulled over on East Hanover Avenue on June 17, when the passing motorist stopped to tell him about another vehicle being driven erratically, according to a statement from Capt. Rich Ferrone. Police then found and stopped the Ford 250 pickup truck, in which driver Alexander Araya, 39, of Morris Township had open bottles of alcoholic beverages, Ferrone said. Araya showed signs of intoxication, and was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of open containers of alcohol in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license, Ferrone said. A Morris Township teen was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated June 4. Morris Township Capt. Rich Ferrone said Sarah Schnur, 19, was arrested early in the morning hours that day. Ptl. Dave Kosakowski had found Schnur shortly before 3 a.m. in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that was stopped on Turtle Road with its lights out, police said. After investigating, police said, Kosakowski determined that Schnur had driven the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Schnur was charged with driving while intoxicated, as well as with driving while intoxicated by a person under the legal age to purchase alcohol. A Chatham man and A Morristown woman were each arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated after separate recent motor vehicle stops, Morris Township police said. Timothy McDougland, 44, of Chatham, was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated just before midnight on May 19. According to Capt. Rich Ferrone, McDougland had been stopped by officers Steven Crump and Heather Jones for failing to maintain his lane on Woodland Avenue. Police said he was also charged with reckless driving. Just after midnight on the morning of May 22, Natashia Johnson, 26, of Morristown was also arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated, Morris Township police said.
