Morris Plains Becomes More Energy Efficient

New lighting at community center, DPW and municipal building are now complete.

In the past two years, Morris Plains has upgraded all borough-owned buildings for more efficient energy use, and at the latest council meeting, members authorized the funding for the work. The energy upgrades that were complete this year were on the DPW buildings and Community Center. Last year the work was done at the Morris Plains Municipal Building. Most of the work was funded from a $21,000 state grant the brough received this year. Councilman Geroge Coogan said that upgrading the lighting is "where the biggest payback is right away in terms of electrical savings." The money covered all of the new energy efficient lighting in all three DPW buildings and a new furnance in one of the DPW buildings. In the Community Center, there were new…

The DPW said during the road work, residents can expect rough roads with raised manholes and storm sewers. "We will make every effort to alert and identify all hazards during this project. We ask that all motorists and pedestrians proceed with caution in the affected areas," the statement reads. The roads are …

Superintendent applauds employees'dedication.

Patch received the following letter from Thomas J. Eschmann, superintendent of the Morris Township Department of Public Works, thanking his employees for their efforts during last weekend's blizzard: While some Christmas presents were still laying by the tree on Sunday morning the men of the Morris Township Department of Public Works were getting ready for a snow storm. It is good to see someone applauding the efforts of the hard working public employees. All I have heard since last week's storm is criticism. What do people expect of these men and women who are working non-stop trying to clear the roads of 30 plus inches of drifting snow? People need to exhibit patience and be willing to accept that in front of their house is not going to be cleared first when …   more ›
