The youth in the Morris School District have a charitable head on their shoulders. After raising more than $15,000 and voting to benefit  the Greater Morristown YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign, some middle schoolers are working hand in hand with a local business for another fundraiser. This time, the beneficiary is Morris Township PBA.  "Some of the 8th graders at Frelinghuysen Middle School have worked in conjunction with The Famished Frog to complete a fundraiser for the Morris Township PBA," said PBA President Heather Jones.  The fundraiser is from 4-10 p.m. on Thursday May 2 at the Frog.  "Anyone who dines there and mentions the fundraiser to their server will have 10 percent of all profits donated directly to our union," said Jones. Modular Buildings at Middle School Get Fast-Tracked Hearing

Morris Township Planning Board offered comments on the plan Monday and said they would stay tuned for any concerns from residents who have not yet had a chance to review the project.

Two connected modular office buildings will be installed facing the side of Frelinghuysen Middle School, across a parking lot from the main building with sports fields behind them, to free up space for five classrooms in the main building amid increasing enrollment, school officials said Monday. Child Study Team offices and offices for The Community School would be moved to the modular buildings and the existing office space would be converted to classrooms. Plans to add classrooms to the West Hanover Avenue facility were announced last month, and the project had a fast-tracked courtesy review hearing before the Morris Township Planning Board on Monday night to get the board's comments on the plans. Student Garden Coming to Frelinghuysen Middle School

Project expected to begin in the fall with first plantings in spring 2014.

Not only is Frelinghuysen Middle School going to be a little bigger this fall, it's expected to get a little greener, as well. In collaboration with Grow it Green Morristown, plans have been drawn up to create a 2,000 square foot garden on the sprawling West Hanover Avenue property, which will be used by students as both an outdoor classroom as well as a source of produce. New Classrooms Coming to Frelinghuysen Middle School

Six rooms expected to be ready by fall.

Frelinghuysen Middle School will look a little roomier this fall as the Morris School District plans to add six new classrooms to the West Hanover Avenue facility. Superintendent Thomas Ficarra discussed the plan at Monday's Board of Education meeting, saying plans were about to go out to bid for the project. The Wayne firm of Di Cara-Rubino Architects provided the design work for the new classrooms. The need to expand the West Hanover Avenue school in Morris Township became apparent, Ficarra said, when enrollment rose from 900 to 1,100 students over the past three years. Morris Ed., Frelinghuysen Continue Tutor Program

Partnership seeking interested volunteers for fall.

The Morris Educational Foundation—which raises funds for programs and services in the Morris School District—will continue its community volunteer program at Frelinghuysen Middle School for the 2012-13 school year. "After launching a successful pilot program last year, leadership at both the middle school and the foundation are excited about increasing the impact of the program targeted to sixth-through-eighth-grade students," according to a press release.
