Morris Habitat for Humanity Gala Raises Funds for Families in Need

Dinner, dancing and donations at Hearts & Hammers Gala.

The Meadow Wood Manor in Randolph was the site of Morris Habitat for Humanity’s 8th Annual Hearts & Hammer’s Gala on Saturday.  The sold out event was attended by 350 supporters, and raised $165,000 to support the non-profit housing agency’s mission to provide decent, affordable housing for low-income families in Morris County and the surrounding area, including Stanhope, Summit, Perth Amboy, and West Milford.     BASF was the premier sponsor for this year’s gala, donating $25,000. The world-leading chemical company, with its headquarters in Florham Park, contributes financially as well as through volunteer builds throughout the year, many involving new hires and college interns.  Lydia Everitt, Manager of University Recruitment for BASF …

Fifth Annual Share the Care 5K Fun Run Thursday

Expect road closures in Morris Plains from 6 to 8 p.m.

The fifth annual Share the Care 5K Fun Run will be held Thursday in Morris Plains from 5 to 8 p.m. to benefit the affordable housing projects of Morris Habitat. The race, hosted by local builder RPI Design Build and Morris Plains, will start at the Trinity Lutheran Church at 6:30 p.m, and a Kids' Fun Run for children ages 2-14 will follow shortly after the 5K. Registration will open at 5 p.m. Police said several roads in Morris Plains will be closed during the race, including Stiles Avenue, Grannis Avenue, and parts of Glenbrook Road and Mountain Way. Officers will be posted at the intersections to assist the motorists and runners. The event will have food, drinks and entertainment after the race. All pre-registered participants will …

Morristown-Beard Teens Volunteer During Break

Several students from Morristown joined their high school's Habitat for Humanity program to work on community service projects during their spring break.

Students at Morristown-Beard School took a different approach to spring break this year by using their week off to volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity program. Sixteen students and three teachers from the school traveled to Phoenix, AZ to build affordable houses for those in need. High school seniors Charlie Hill and Casey Miller, and junior Gabby Farquhar are three of the students from Morristown that participated in this trip. All of the students worked with teachers Andrewa Deventer, Jessica Weinberger, and Brad Turner on the construction projects, where they added a roof to a house, framed interior walls, and installed exterior prywood walls. Morristown High School Students Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity

Morris Habitat for Humanity sent out a press release Wednesday giving some deserved props to several Morristown High School students, who recently volunteered their time with the program. The press release is below. There are a number of high school groups that help the Morris Habitat ReStore in Mine Hill on a regular basis. Recently, it was from a great group of students from Morristown. Tomas Quinteros Amat, Joanna Felsenstein, Danielle Schussel, Vera Mastrolli and Kiah Sandler were there on the first of two half-days of volunteer work by the Morristown High School Habitat for Humanity Club. One of the donations that the ReStore gets is paint. Without being able to identify it, it would remain a “mystery” color. These students spent the …

On the Run For Charity in Morris Plains

Habitat for Humanity Event Builds Homes and Hope

People were running through the streets of Morris Plains Thursday evening, participating in the 4th Annual Share the Care 5K Fun Run. RPI Design-Build LLC, a Morris Plains based company, along with the borough of Morris Plains, put together this charity event for the Morris Habitat for Humanity. Sponsors and vendors for this event were Lakeland Bank, Chilton Hospital, Recreational Equipment Inc., Trinity Lutheran Church of Morris Plains, Morris Spine and Sport, Atlantic Health System and Standard Tile East Hanover Corp. Local radio station WDHA 105.5 FM kept the crowd rocking with music. The Morris Plains Police Department kept the streets safe for the runners and the Morris Minute Men First Aid Squad was on hand in case of an emergency. …

It's Our 30th Reunion? Let's Build a House

Four Morristown High Class of 1981 grads participated in Habitat for Humanity project before class reunion on May 21.

Reunions often are about catching up with old friends, some participants may have not seen in decades. For four Morristown High School Class of 1981 alums, however, Saturday, May 21, also was about service as they took time from their reunion plans to help with the Morris Habitat for Humanity project currently underway at 39 Morris Ave. in Summit.
