Morris Township police are asking residents to lock their cars and remove valuable items to prevent them from being stolen following the thefts of several vehicles in the James Street neighborhood on Friday night. According to an alert sent through the township's Nixle system, officers responded to the neighborhood after items were reported stolen. Capt. Richard Ferrone said police believed the apparent thefts happened between midnight and 5 a.m. "The items taken from the unlocked cars ranged from loose change to woman's purses," he said. "Residents are reminded not to leave valuables in their vehicles and to secure them when leaving them outside." To the Editor: There is a "no turn on red" restriction at the traffic light on James Street at the corner of South Street between the hours of 9 a.m and 9 p.m. As a result the traffic on James Street is often backed up for one or two blocks, which prevents vehicles from getting into the lefthand lane to make a left turn onto South Street as well as backing up traffic on side streets. Allowing a turn on a green arrow would be a vast improvement to improving the traffic flow. In addition, it would reduce the exhaust pollution from all the vehicles that are waiting to make the turn onto South Street. Public meeting, to discuss an upcoming overpass replacement at I-287 and James Street, will be held at 6 p.m. at the Morris Township Municipal Building.
If you live near or travel across the I-287 overpass on James Street in Morris Township, mark your calendars for 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 9. That is when the New Jersey Department of Transportation will be hosting a public pre-construction meeting Anyone from the public is welcome to attend. I agree. Not enough traffic can flow through that intersection in the morning. An alternative would be to allow the left lane (on James st) to turn both left and right, so you have two lines being able to make that right on a gree light.   more ›
